Uses, Benefits, and Red Infrared Light Therapy Devices

You may have heard about red infrared light therapy, but what exactly is it, and how could it benefit you? Celebrities, ads, and even several Harvard articles on LED light therapy are starting to make their way around the internet (Harvard Health Publishing, 2019). This blog aims to shed some light on the topic, and explain a little bit more about infrared red light therapy.

Let’s first get some context:

The modern world brings about many joys and delights that make our lives both more comfortable and easier to manage. If we think back just 100 years, it seems that humans have taken leaps and bounds in modern health and lifestyle improvements.

There is a dark side to all this technology however, and I do mean that quite literally.

It is both very hard, and largely impractical, to have an outdoor office or living environment that keeps us comfortable, and our technologies safe. Thus modern homes, offices, shopping facilities and even home workplaces share one common theme.

They are all inside.

Need some proof? Look at the background of 99% of meetings, even zoom calls, you will see walls. Maybe some tinted windows if you’re lucky, however due to the sun blocking qualities exhibited by modern windows, this is much the same as having no windows at all.

In MOST cases, modern meetings and work in general are done inside, out of the elements. You will also notice in 99% of cases, wearing sun protective clothing, or just clothing in general, is a pretty necessary component of work.

How long has this been natural?

Well actually, this behaviour is the complete opposite of how human behaviour has adapted to live amongst our surroundings historically and is actually highly unnatural.

If you think back 100 years, did anyone work on computers all day, at all? (besides scientists, absolutely not!)

100 years ago, things like going to an outdoor market would be very common, whereas nowadays we have supermarkets. In fact, outdoor markets are segregated to weekends or every second weekend in most modern societies, if they exist at all!

It sounds so insignificant, however every day we miss these little opportunities to get outdoors in the name of convenience.  Have a quick think about how many people rush by a servo or drive through on the way to work, whereas 100 years ago, would they even have had a car, and did drive throughs even exist?

Humans would have faced some challenges to get a quick morning bite, and in fact any food or supplies years ago, and thus were more than likely to have gotten some exercise and morning sunlight while doing so.

These small changes have all added up, and compromise in the name of convenience has accumulated to the point where we can have almost anything at all delivered to our front door. In short, we as a species, especially city dwellers, have become used to seeing no natural sunlight for most of our lives.

Science has found that no natural light and too much unnatural light is a BIG health problem, and thus, enter Infrared Red Light Therapy (RLT) devices & blue light glasses. These devices actually help to correct the imbalance in our ‘light diets’ caused by excessive technology use.

Why do I need Red Light therapy? I work outside & get outside plenty?

Let’s consider a modern day traffic controller in Australia. Always outside, right?

The PPE (personal protective equipment) that you must wear in Australia, includes being completely covered head to toe in either clothing or suncream. Sunglasses are usually worn on top of this.

Our skin, especially our torsos and eyelids behind those clothes and sunglasses are so well protected that they cannot sense we are in the sunlight at all.

This is a huge problem when considering a modern human being’s light diet.

I would therefore predict that some road workers actually see less natural sunlight per day on most of their bodies than office workers, and office workers see next to none!

Does this mean we are all light deficient?

This means we all for sure have a better chance at being light deficient than ever before. Especially if we are also attempting to stay sun safe!

Thus at TLA, our aim was to never have all modern humans running outside naked every morning and afternoon. Our aim has always been to bring the natural red and near infrared light indoors, so you can turn on natural red and infrared sunlight whenever you like; rain, hail or shine!

We don’t make medical claims about our devices. We do not call them super drugs or miracle products. In fact, I myself relate TLA red & infrared light therapy devices effectiveness, to giving a ship full of pirates with scurvy a box of oranges.

(The pirates in this analogy are vitamin deficient in a similar way, i.e. oranges are not miracle drugs, but when you’ve had no fruit for 6 months, they seem very close to it I’m sure!)

How do I choose between Devices for infrared red light therapy?

At TLA, we have 2 big advantages when advising customers what the best solution would be for them:

1: We do not make medical claims, this means that we do not need to be doctors, and rely on you, the customer, to do your own research and background checking. We strive to stay a fair company legally compliant in what we say about our devices.

2: All of the devices do the exact same thing, they are just different sizes and shapes. Thus, if you call or email us, we will simply be fitting you into the most convenient and easy to use device FOR YOU! This is why we have over 100 red light therapy devices; we are not purposely trying to make this confusing, rather, there is definitely an infrared light therapy device for every one, and every use.

  • Remember, the best results come from using our devices twice a day. If it is hard for you to use them, you will likely not get a result as you will not use them.

Which red light therapy device is for faces?

The TLA Pro 300 infrared light for beauty was made for red light therapy for faces. This product would suit a beauty salon, or a keen home user. It has digital timers, and will cover the face and neck area with red and near infrared light at one time. You can also link this device with a Pro 900 infrared red LED panel to form a 1.2m setup, so it is what we call a modular device. More than anything, the easy to use stand and digital timer make this device optimum for areas that are the size of a face and neck area.

The TLA LTE II 300 near infrared light therapy device, is a very similar device but a lot cheaper. Results wise, very very similar, however features wise, worlds apart. The LTE II 300 is a more cost effective smaller build, and does not have digital timers. It doesn’t have a stand, and is non modular, meaning it can not be made larger later. With a little bit of inventiveness, someone could use this second device and get the exact same results as the first one.

How would we advise you which infrared light therapy device to get?

  • Budget: one item is going to be cheaper than the other, both can be used very similarly, you could then determine whether the extra features are worth the extra money in your circumstance.
  • Future use: if you are planning on making the setup larger in the future, we will always advise you to go with a modular red light therapy panel. That way you can just add more machines to it when you are ready to upgrade. If you only want a small device, for small areas, and have no thoughts of upgrading, go with the cheaper machine.

Why do we sell both?

  • We believe red light therapy is for everyone. If we can make a machine that does everything our top of the line machines can do, without some of the bells and whistles, this helps pensioners and anyone else struggling with money to be able to afford a device.

How Does Red LED Light Therapy Work?

Red infrared light therapy devices are incredibly easy to use. In the case of red light therapy panels, each one has an ideal distance that you should be from it. Click this link to find out how close to a red light therapy panel you should be.

There are also many other types of products, not just panels, so you may be wondering how to use them. The good news is that all TLA devices are basically the same thing, just different sizes and shapes. This blog entry contains a free user guide for red light therapy devices!

With an ever-growing body of evidence supporting the efficiency of RLT, it is likely that interest in this therapy will continue to increase in the years to come, and more and more new devices will be created.

How has Red Light Therapy Evolved?

For one thing the size, shape and applications of these devices is currently evolving extremely quickly. Here at TLA, we are always making new devices, and almost weekly we think of another one.

With more studies being done on more uses for red infrared light therapy, more devices are a natural part of the industry’s progression.

Take for example the TLA infrared light therapy helmet, and red light therapy cap products. These are clearly intended to treat the head, and are more practical to do so than a panel.

As I often tell customers, human beings are not flat, so sometimes we need the devices to be a little less rigid and more wearable in order to gain a better, more rounded result.

This means people trying to do whole body red light therapy sessions can do so with ease and comfort, and within 10-20 minutes using a large device. Similarly, someone looking to just treat their head, should just grab a hat or helmet, making treating just that area very convenient and easy.

Simply speaking as the world demands more from red light therapy, the products must be able to do more to keep up. This is one area where TLA has really made a name for itself internationally, as we do have the largest range of infrared red light therapy devices in the entire world right here on our website!

Is Red Light Therapy Safe?

Where possible, products should be used at or below approved dose rates advised and for approved applications. TLA Australia does not condone the misuse of RLT, any product(s) or device(s) as it may cause damage if misused/overused or used incorrectly.

We highly recommend seeking advice from a doctor before using our devices.

How Much Does RLT Cost?

Red light therapy is becoming a popular choice of treatments for many people, due in part to many celebrities raving about the results they are experiencing. But how much do these treatments cost?

On average, a red light therapy session costs between $30 and $50. However, the price can vary depending on the provider, the length of the session, and any additional services that may be included.

For example, some providers offer packages that include multiple sessions, or add-ons like facials or massages. These extras can increase the overall cost of the treatment.

If you’re considering red light therapy, it’s important to do your research and find a reputable provider in your area.  Once you’ve found a few options, you can compare prices and decide which option is right for you.

In our opinion, for the price of 10-100 sessions, you could have a small – whole body red light therapy device at home, saving you a bunch of $$ and leaving you with a device you can use for years! This is why we recommend purchasing a red light therapy device if you are interested in long term use.
